      • Tie: 1 point
      • Loss: 0 points
    • Teams will be ranked following the group matches based on the number of points earned. In the case of a tie, tie breaker rules will be employed to determine ranking:

      • c) Most goals scored
      • d) Penalty stroke competition*
    • Playoff games that finish in a tie will be decided by a penalty stroke competition*

    • Penalty cards will be accrued and carried with you throughout the tournament. Once an individual has accumulated two yellow cards, they will be penalized by having to sit out their next game. A red card will result in a minimum one game ban, a longer ban may be imposed at the organizers and officials discretion.
    • All participants will abide by all NUDAR facility rules and regulations during the event.
    • Alcohol or illegal drugs or substances are not permitted at the field.
    • Please be respectful to the Northwestern University campus and use the trash cans provided.

Summary

The Chicago Field Hockey Club hosted the inaugural Chicago Field Hockey Cup on July 15 and 16 at Northwestern University's top notch astroturf. Nine teams in total competed from around the continent: two teams from Chicago, Philaronto (a combination of Team Philly and the Toronto Lions), Dallas, the Mavericks, Toronto FHC, St Louis Club Field Hockey, Minnesota and a Midwest All Star team (comprised of players from Cleveland, Michigan State University, and University of Michigan club teams). Teams were split into three pools, and each team were slated to play the other two teams in their pool as well as one team from each of the remaining pools on Saturday to determine seeding for Sunday's games. With temperatures in the upper 80's and high humidity, the heat became every team's competition as players struggled to remain hydrated and out of the sun as much as possible. No game was a sure victory and there were a number of surprising results on the field. At the end of the day's play, all teams retired to the tournament social to unwind and catch up or get to know each other off the field. Points were tallied and the winner of each pool plus a wildcard team moved onto the winner's bracket, while the other teams participated in a consolation pool on Sunday. Within the consolation pool, Chicago B was the only team to win both of their games to finish in 5th place overall, followed by St. Louis, Midwest All Stars, Dallas and Minnesota. In the first semi-final game, the Chicago A team faced off against the Washington Mavericks. Chicago came from behind to answer the Mavs early goal and notch a second one to solidify their place in the final match. A Canadian battle ensued in the second semi-final game as Philaronto and Toronto FHC traded offensive drives at a furious pace, but Philaronto achieved two unanswered goals to advance into the top game. Toronto FHC came back in the consolation game, however, to edge out the Mavericks 2-1 and claim 3rd place. The final game between Chicago A and Philaronto turned out to be a contest of stamina and will as an end-to-end battle found the two teams evenly matched and tied 2-2 at the final horn. The first round of 5 penalty strokes notched an additional 3 goals for each team and still no victor, which lead the Cup into sudden death penalty strokes. After an additional 4 strokes, Chicago A finally emerged as the champion. Chicago FHC thanks all who participated for a great competition and friendly sportsmanship. Look to bring your team to Chicago Cup 2007 - this is sure to be an annual event!
