Indoor updates for the week:
After the second set of round robins, the semi-finals will be a rematch of this week’s games. As the Valentine’s Day Massacre team from Cinci can attest to, rankings can have very little do with who makes it to the final so it’s still anyone’s league!
Also, a reminder to please let both your captain and Theresa know if you are not going to be at the games over the next 2 weekends.
Cheers,
Theresa Sukal - Indoor Chair
Tournament Update:
I know the sun this weekend will have people thinking about making summer plans, so I wanted to give an outline of upcoming tournaments so you make sure they fit into your schedule:
2008 Midwest Classic, Columbus OH: May 10th and 11th, format to be confirmed - Attempts to hold this tournament in recent years haven't been too successful but I know the Central Ohio folks are pushing really hard to make this a reality this year. They have the Varsity turf field booked and are looking for teams. This is a good low cost option, you can drive and the tourney fees are relatively low.
Please email Mags or Steve if you are interested in going.
JFK: May 17th and 18th. Based on the amount of interest we have seen we will be sending in mens and ladies applications for JFK this week, once our places are secured we will start planning flights and hotel etc...
Chicago Cup: Provisionally June 14th and 15th - Our application for the NU field on these dates has been submitted we hope to be able to get a contract signed and start planning by Mid-March, we'll keep you posted.
Boston: July 27th and 28th - Mens and Ladies division - NB ****we need feedback about this tournament, there is only 1 ladies spot remaining and 3 mens spots, so if we are going to send teams we need people to let us know now if they would be interested in going, we don't need a '100% yes', we just need to gauge interest. Ladies please email Mags (ladies-captain@chicagofhc.com) and guys please email Steve (mens-captain@chicagofhc.com) and let them know whether or not you are interested.
Atlanta: Oct 4th and 5th - Men's and Ladies division. We don't need any correspondence for Atlanta yet, just want people to keep it on the radar.
I can no longer find any mention of the Miami tournament in March on the Miami Surf website or their Facebook page, so I'm assuming until I hear otherwise that its not going ahead. No doub
We are often asked about costs of tournaments and while its too early to give exact cost breakdowns, for the three east coast tournaments, it generally works out between $200-250 for flights, $50-$70 per person tournament fees, $30/night per person for hotels, $20-30 per person for transportation (car rentals etc..).
If the Columbus tourney goes ahead, it would be considerably cheaper. If we drive the total weekend cost will probably be less than $180 per person including hotel, cars and tourney fees.
Ballpark numbers but hopefully it gives some indication of the costs involved.

Cinci Review:
Chicago Black emerged as winners of the 2008 Midwest Indoor Challenge Cup in Cincinnati last weekend. In an all Chicago final, 'Blackout' beat the 'Valentine's Day Massacre' 3-1 after two days of tough competition.
The tournament consisted of 8 teams playing in a round robin format, that would ensure 10 games over 2 days for the finalists. As promised 2008 was the most competitive Indoor Challenge Cup yet with 5 of the 8 teams feeling that they had a chance to win the tournament by the end of round robin play on Sunday afternoon. The quarter final match-ups were as follows:
#1 Cincinnati 'A' V #8 Indiana University
#2 Cleveland V #7 Michigan
#3 Chicago Black V #6 Cincinnati 'B'
#4 Central Ohio V #5 Chicago Pink
Indiana and Michigan put up spirited displays to go down by only 2 goals against top seeds Cincinnati A and Cleveland respectively, before Chicago Black overcame Cincinnati 'B' with relative comfort. Chicago Pink overturned a round robin defeat to Central Ohio to progress to the semi-finals 3-1.
The two semi-finals were very hard fought encounters memorable for some excellent defending and goalkeeping. Chicago Black overcame much fancied Cleveland 1-0 before Chicago Pink topped previously unbeaten Cincinnati also by a 1-0 scoreline.
The all Chicago final saw Chicago Black take an early two goal advantage before Chicago Pink hit back right after the break. A truly excellent team goal worthy of any final halted any thoughts of a grandstand finish and Chicago Black were good value for the 3-1 victory.
Special mention to Kenny Darka who was awarded the Raj Bhangu Fair Play and Sportmanship award for his performances throughout the tournament.
Mens Captain - Steve Moulton.
