Hockey Bio: Shayan grew up with cricket as his first sport and passion but hockey was always in his blood with both his father and grandfather having represented their respective regional and national sides. He only took up hockey seriously in 2004 upon the encouragement from then CFHC Captain Faizal Jogee and instantly took a liking for goalkeeping. Ever since taking up goal keeping he has not looked back and has been CFHC’s last line of defense at the Spartan Midwest Summer Classic Tournament 2004 and Cincinnati Midwest Indoor Challenge Cup 2005. Shayan was named the MVP for CFHC at the MSU Midwest Classic Tournament 2004 and was also named the CFHC Male MVP of the Year for 2004. His favorite hockey players include Shahbaz Ahmed (Pakistan), Sohail Abbas (Pakistan), Guus Vogels (Netherlands) and Tuen de Nooijer (Netherlands ).

CFHC Experience: It's just amazing to have a group of people who all speak different languages and dialects and come from such diverse and multicultural backgrounds and what unites them all is the love and passion for the great sport of Field Hockey. I started with CFHC last year 2004, and the experience has been overwhelmingly great. I have had a blast traveling to tournaments at MSU and Cincinnati while also playing competitive hockey at the same time. The highest point of my CFHC experience so far has been winning the Final at MSU Tournament in 2004 on penalty flicks. I am still a relative newbie to the sport in general and the position of goal keeping in particular but the support, love and encouragement I have received from my fellow teammates has been instrumental in me carrying on. In particular I am especially thankful to Faizal Jogee, Alarico Fernandes, Nadeem Khan, Greg Best, Joniell Borges, Simon Allen, Theresa Sukal and Shahid Qadri for their coaching, help and guidance. I am sure that the friendships I have made on and off the field here at CFHC will last a lifetime and I feel very lucky to be a part of such a wonderful and diverse group of people.
