RULES, ETC

Tournament Format
  • The tournament will be conducted in accordance with the F.I.H. "Rules of Hockey 2006"
  • This is a co-ed round robin, 11 vs. 11 full-field tournament. Each game is 2 20-minute halves with a 5 minute half-time.
  • A minimum of 7 players is required to start the game. Less than this on the field at any time will result in a forfeit of the match.
  • Each team will play 4 games in the round robin. There is no overtime in the case of a tie. An extension of time to complete a penalty stroke or a penalty corner will be permitted. Point scoring will be:
    o Win: 3 points
    o Tie: 1 point
    o Loss: 0 points
  • Teams will be ranked following the round robin matches based on the number of points earned. In the case of a tie, tie breaker rules will be employed to determine ranking:
o Ranked according to their respective number of matches won
o "Goals for" minus "Goals against" (positive balance)
    o Goals for (most)
o The winner of the game between the two teams
    o Coin toss
  • On the second day of the tournament, a "Challenge Match" will be played between the 4th/5th place teams to determine the final team in the semifinal matches. Two semi-final matches and a championship match will then be played. In the case of a tie for these playoff games, the winner will be determined by a best-of-5 penalty stroke competition. Each team will select five players to take alternating penalty strokes. Anyone taking a penalty stroke must have been on the field at the end of regulation play. If the score is still tied, a sudden-death series shall be played with the same five players, but not necessarily in the same order. The team which started the first series of strokes shall not start the second.

Teams

  • Teams are allowed to have a maximum of 16 players on their roster. At least, four ladies must be present on the field at all times (goalie is gender neutral).
  • Teams shall wear the color that they specified for their team. Please have an alternate color or pinnies available in the case that team colors are too similar to be distinguished. The team listed first on the schedule is the home team and has the right to first choice of color for the game.

Prizes, Fun Facts, Etc.

  • Prizes will be awarded to the Champion and Second place teams and it's individuals. Male and Female Most Valuable Player Awards will be given. All prizes will be given at the Tournament Lunch on Sunday afternoon. We encourage all teams to remain for this.
  • An athletic trainer will be available.
  • Ice, coolers, and water will be available for use at no charge.
  • Portable bathrooms are available for use.

Liability and Conduct

  • All participants will be required to sign and return a copy of the "Liability Waiver and Code of Conduct Agreement". The tournament committee takes strong exception to verbal comments and attacks by players on umpires and members of the opposing teams during the course of play. It is expected that good sportsmanship and patience will be demonstrated throughout the tournament.
  • This year penalty cards will be accrued and carried with you throughout the tournament. Once an individual has accumulated two yellow cards or received a red card, they will be penalized by having to sit out their next game. Decisions of penalties will be made by the officials on the field, as well as through consultation with the umpire coordinator. Please remember, this is a friendly tournament. We expect that everyone will be respectful of one another and the officials.
  • Alcohol is not permitted at the field. Please be respectful to our campus and remove trash following play.
